The golden age of Spain (9th - 15th century) produced not only great achievements in astronomy, math, navigation and the other sciences, but also in architecture, art, poetry, philosophy and music. These were the fruits of the immense collaboration and cross-cultural exchange between the Jewish, Muslim and Christian populations living together at that time in the Iberian Peninsula. The song’s verses sung in Hebrew by Maya Haddi (1st and 3rd verses) and Najwa Gibran (2nd verse) are based on an Andalusian melody of that period, preserved over the last 500 years by the Jewish- Moroccan community.
